Lane Cove West Public School is a proud, growing school immersed in a picturesque physical environment with expansive grounds and gardens. The school is renowned for high student achievement, the provision of diverse and challenging educational opportunities and commitment to nurturing positive attitudes towards lifelong learning. Our highly professional, dedicated and inspirational staff team endeavour to encourage all students to achieve their personal best and potential in all that they do and grow into respectful and responsible citizens, in line with the school's Core Values.
Lane Cove West Public School serves a diverse student population with the support of a school community that places high value on education. There are 592 students representing 41 language speaking backgrounds. The school is strongly supported by a proactive P&C parent body who have enabled the school to continue to make significant improvements to the physical learning environment of the school, the resources available to students and ability to offer wide ranging educational opportunities.
Our vision is underpinned by The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians (2008). Our vision is ‘to provide a positive and inclusive environment in which all students are prepared to be lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.' Our strategic directions, in line with the School Excellence Framework, focus on quality educational practices across the school, student success as learners and responsible citizens and consistent, high standard management practices across the school. The wellbeing of all our students lies at the core of Lane Cove West Public School's vision, and drives all our decisions and actions.
Through a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, science and technology, history, geography, the performing arts and sport. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the best possible opportunity to achieve academic success. Embracing contemporary pedagogies, students develop their communication and collaboration skills, creative and critical thinking skills and problem solving ability through differentiated, explicit, future focused teaching and learning opportunities that embrace innovative tools to redesign learning tasks.
Enrichment opportunities are provided for all students K-6 through a specialised sporting program which develops fine and gross motor skills, expert creative arts teachers who develop student ability in drama, dance, music and singing and a Mandarin program cultivating student's language skills and cultural knowledge. The research hub of the school is the library and students and teachers alike benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the librarian in providing quality teaching and learning programs fostering the utilisation of 21st Century skills. Other opportunities provided to students include a parent operated band program, a full-time Learning and Support Teacher and extra-curricular activities including choir, dance, robotics, chess, coding club, science and art clubs.
Students support environmental practices within the school through an active gardening club, chicken program, composting and recycling. Initiatives and partnerships with Lane Cove Council and Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre underpin the school's environmental programs.
This year the school is excited to be starting the journey of Visible Learning with Corwin, which is linked to the extensive educational research of John Hattie. This professional learning will further develop our staff expertise to provide excellence in education.
I look forward to actively working with the school community to ensure a happy, supportive and productive relationship with you and your children.
Regards,
Tania Weston
