Gifted & Talented

Lane Cove West Public School has developed a series of programs, activities and initiatives designed to cater for the needs of different students, including those who are Gifted and Talented. (GAT)

The GAT Committee comprises of classroom teachers and school executive who have a particular interest or qualification in Gifted and Talented Education. They are responsible for overseeing the school's specialised programs, activities and initiatives.

Every teacher at Lane Cove West Public School is skilled in differentiating the curriculum to cater for the needs of their students. Classroom activities are adapted and opportunities are available for students to extend their gift and talent within a mainstream classroom.

The school also participates in a number of competitions and programs which support Gifted and Talented students.

Mathematics:

  • Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
  • Stage 3 Debating Program

ICT:

  • Robotics
  • Class Movie Project

Creative and Performing Arts:

  • The ArtsNorth visual arts camp
  • The Primary Proms Choir
  • The Opera House Choir
  • The Sydney Dance Festival Group
  • School Production (choral, dance, acting)

Sport:

  • Zone, Regional and State Swimming, athletics and cross country
  • PSSA Netball
  • PSSA Football (Soccer)
  • Various Gala Days (Cricket, AFL, Touch Football)

Our school has achieved great success in a number of these competitions and our GAT Committee meets regularly to review these programs and initiatives and to research other viable options.
